Hardwood Floor Refinishing To Make Your Old Floors Look New

Floors are made so that everyone can walk on them, which is why it is unavoidable that after using for many years, hardwood floors might look damaged, scratched or dull. However, one of the best things about these types of floors is that instead of replacing the worn-out flooring, you can get it refinished.

Refinishing: Do I need it?

If your hardwood flooring is scratched or damaged, if it is soaking up water instead of dispersing it, or if the boards are squeaky and warped, you may be in need of floor refinishing service. But, because of the process of refinishing removes the wood’s top layer, you need a thick floor. Exposing the subfloor beneath your hardwood accidentally is the last thing you want. If you are not sure about the thickness of your flooring, call a professional for analysis and consultation. 3

Buffing and sanding

Once you have removed all fixtures and furniture form the room and cleaned the floor well, the first thing to do in the refinishing process of hardwood floor is sanding away the stain and old finish. Along with revealing the bare wood, sanding helps the floor by leveling it up and helps expose the plank grains. Sanding and buffing can eliminate scuffs, cracks, and scratches and improve the appearance of the wood generally. You and your professional should sand more than once and vacuum in between to drive out the dust. When this process is done, you should be able to have smooth and leveled surface.

Finishing and staining

If you want to add stain to your flooring, now is the time to do it. Test the stain in a corner of the house to make sure the color is what you wanted. Then follow the direction of the manufacturer to apply the stain. If you are hiring a professional service, all you need to do is approve the color and leave the work to the contractor. Once the stain is dried completely, polyurethane sealant must be applied to protect the floor. The sealant finish makes your floor waterproof and it also gives it a classical shine and glows.
